Seek out that particular mental attitude which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive along with which comes the inner voice which says, "this is the real me" and when you have found that attitude, follow it. William James (1842 - 1910)

There are various types of therapies. Research has shown that the best outcomes in therapy occurred when the relationship between client and counsellor was rated highly by both client and counsellor. If a client feels comfortable with the therapist and with the way the therapist is working then this is probably a good indication that the client and therapist are working effectively. This does not mean that the client should always like everything the counsellor portrays and there may be times when the client can feel angry with their counsellor as at times a client may feel resistant towards what the counsellor has to say. What is important is that the client feels generally comfortable, accepted, respected and understood.
